Petroglyph

In the Atacama desert, one of the driest areas in the world in northern Chile, I came across numerous petroglyphs. From primitive to stylized, from very old to somewhat younger. During his months-long journey through Chile and Peru, I was touched by these often mysterious paintings.

It gave me inspiration and I started working as an artist

I imagined my onw figures and while drawing, a shaman emerged. Naturally he crawled out of the paper. This powerful image has become the symbol of the ‘Petroglifo’ series,

I position the petroglyphs in mooring posts, those silent Dutch watchmen at bridges and locks. Green discolored by algae, full of scars from decades of use. They are now being renovated to take on a new life: embracing age-old art. Green discolored by algae, full of scars from decades of use. Accustomed to deep waters, the mooring posts are combined with the dryness of the desert. The already elderly pedestals are now saddled with even older, symbolic petroglyphs, captured in a centimeter-thick iron plate.
